(HAMMOND, Ind.) The death of a man shot Thursday night while driving on the Borman Expressway in northwest Indiana may be linked to the fatal shooting of another man found dead in a car nearby.

Indiana State Police responded to a call of a hit-and-run crash about 7 p.m. Thursday and found 25-year-old Dominique D. Wright in a black, older-model Oldsmobile on I-80/94 near Kennedy Avenue, according to a statement from ISP.

Wright, of the 2200 block of Tanglewood Drive in Hammond, was shot multiple times while driving on the expressway near Cline Avenue, authorities said. His vehicle continued westbound, striking another vehicle before coming to a rest on the inside berm of the interstate.

About 7 a.m. Friday, Hammond police were called to a report of a dead person in a car just north of I-94 in the 7300 block of Arizona Street in Hammond’s Hessville neighborhood.

“A Chrysler Concorde was found abandoned in the alleyway … with an unidentified male subject inside,” Hammond Lt. Richard Hoyda said via email.

The Lake County coroner’s office identified that victim as Terrill K. Fenderson, 37, of the 3400 block oif Elm Street in East Chicago, Ind. He died of gunshot wounds and the death was a homicide, according to the coroner’s office.

“It appears that the two cases are related,” state police said in a statement.

Police believe Fenderson and Wright may have been shooting at each other on the Borman.

“It is believed at this time that the shootings may have both occurred on the expressway and that one of the vehicles involved was then driven to Hammond by unknown person(s),” Hoyda said.

No one is in custody for either shooting and no suspects have been identified, Hoyda said.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:40 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

“Indiana State Police at Lowell and the Hammond PD are working together to solve these two homicides,” the ISP statement said. “At this time there are no other suspects and no need for motorists to feel it is unsafe to travel the roadways.”

Anyone with information should call Indiana State Police at (219) 696-6242 or Hammond police at 219 853 6490.
