The junior guard from Thornridge poured in 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Falcons picked up their first win of the year Friday, defeating Aurora 77-65 at Joliet West

Makur Puou, Mooseheart’s 6-10 senior forward, had quite the night in his team’s first game of the year. Puou led the Red Ramblers to their first victory, a 75-65 decision over Delavan (Wis.), by pouring in 31 points and pulling down 11 reboounds.

The success of the football team seems to have transferred over to the hardwood. Phillips evened its record at 2-2 by upsetting suburban power Glenbrook North 45-39 to take fifth place at the Niles West/St. Patrick tournament.

Friday night accounted for numerous dramatic finishes as three games were won at the buzzer.

  • Mike Landi put in a layup as the buzzer sounded to lift Geneva past Addison Trail 42-41 at the West Chicago tournament.
  • Dante Henley hit a three-pointer to upset Zion-Benton 54-51 in overtime at the Lane tournament.
  • Brennen Shettina hit a three-pointer in double overtime to lead Coal City past Gardner-South Wilmington 65-63 and into the finals of its own tournament.
