ALBEMARLE, N.C. — Police in Albemarle report one student has been hurt and another person is in custody after a shooting at Albemarle High School.

The shooting was reported around 7 a.m. Tuesday. A police dispatcher confirmed the shooting but could not provide details. A spokesman did not immediately return a phone message.

Multiple media outlets reported that the school has been placed on lockdown. Parents were asked to go to North Albemarle Baptist Church, about a block from the school.

There was no word on the student’s condition.

No other details were immediately available.

Albemarle is in Stanley County, about 35 miles east of Charlotte.
