Alexander Villafane, 39, was standing next to a vehicle about 12:50 p.m. in the 3500 block of West 24th Street when a minivan drove up and someone inside opened fire, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Villafane, of the 2300 block of South St. Louis, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday, the medical examiner’s office said.
