Since hiring Veljko Paunovic to replace Frank Yallop, the Fire themselves haven’t made much big news during the offseason. But recently there have been plenty of developments with some ties to the club:

– In response to rumors about David Accam, general manager Nelson Rodriguez told a local outlet the Fire have had “no discussions at all with Stoke (City) or any other team for the transfer of his services.” It emerged last week that Accam trained with the Premier League club, which reportedly is interested in signing him.

– Nothing has been announced officially, but a Canadian report Monday said it is “almost guaranteed” Didier Drogba will not play for Montreal in 2016. Drogba, who has been linked to a return to Chelsea, chose not to play in Chicago after a pursuit but was signed by the Fire and traded to the Impact for allocation money, which led to the acquisition of Gilberto.

– A report Tuesday said Georgetown defender Joshua Yaro has picked an agent. Yaro, if he signs with MLS, would be a top contender for the No. 1 overall draft pick owned by the Fire.

– Neither Mike Magee or Jeff Larentowicz have signed, though a report Wednesday said Larentowicz was expected to join the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Going long

The Wolves lost 4-1 on Monday at the Milwaukee Admirals. And unlike previous treks to Wisconsin, this one wasn’t an easy journey for the Wolves.

According to the team, the Wolves’ trip Monday took three hours and 20 minutes because of that day’s winter storm. It usually takes a quick 80 minutes, and the lengthy ride led to a 40-minute delay.

After Wednesday’s game at Rockford, the Wolves host Rockford on Saturday before Lake Erie visits Allstate Arena on Sunday.
