A 63-year-old woman was killed and her 20-year-old daughter suffered burns in a house fire Friday night in Palatine.
Lois Demos died after being found unconscious near a second-floor bedroom, and firefighters found her daughter semi-conscious near the living room of the home in the 100 block of South Oak Street just before 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Palatine Fire Department.
Demos was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital, and her daughter was treated there and transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with burns, according to fire officials and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Two neighbors who tried to enter the home before firefighters arrived were being treated at St. Alexis Hospital in Hoffman Estates, fire officials said.
The house sustained heavy fire damage and was deemed uninhabitable.
