Sailor from Lisle dies on deployment in Abu Dhabi

LISLE — A U.S. sailor from Lisle has died in a noncombat incident during his first deployment overseas.

The U.S. Defense Department said in a statement that 24-year-old Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan D. Burris died Thursday in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The statement gave no information about the nature of the incident, which took place at the Zayed Military City. He was deployed in support of the operation against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

The Naval Criminal Investigations Services is investigating the incident, said Maj. Tiffany Bowens, a spokeswoman for U.S. Central Command.

Burris went to Lisle High School and joined the Navy in 2012. His grandfathers, father and uncle also served in the military.
