Police are searching for the driver of a car that fatally struck a 5-year-old girl Saturday afternoon in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 3:15 p.m., a dark-colored Honda Civic hit Maria Gonzalez near her home in the 5900 block of South Mozart before taking off westbound on 60th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gonzalez was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 3:51 p.m., authorities said.

The two-door Honda has a sunroof and spoiler, and it may have a front-end bra with a sport muffler and a broken headlight, police said. It has a dull or primer finish.
