PLAINFIELD — A funeral has been scheduled for a U.S. Marine Corps combat photographer from Illinois who died in a helicopter crash during the aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal.

The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports that a visitation and funeral will be Wednesday for Marine Cpl. Sara A. Medina of Aurora at St. Mary Immaculate Church in Plainfield. Medina’s funeral will have full military honors. She died May 12.

Medina was one of eight people killed when a Marine helicopter crashed during a relief mission. Six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers lost their lives in the crash. The wreckage was found after days of searching in the mountains northeast of Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital.

Medina graduated from East Aurora High School in 2010.
