BOURBONNAIS — The Bears traded backup offensive lineman Ryan Groy to the Patriots for linebacker Matthew Wells on Monday.

Drafted with the second pick of the sixth round in May, Wells is speedy, if undersized. At 6-2, 215 pounds, he ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.

Wells started 26 games during his last two seasons at Mississippi State and is expected to push for a special teams role with the Bears.

Groy started three games for the Bears last season after going undrafted out of Wisconsin.

The trade is GM Ryan Pace’s second; he dealt Brandon Marshall to the Jets in March.
