Before the Pirates game on Monday, the Cubs made a roster move to bring another bat onto the roster.

Cubs designated pitcher Clayton Richards, 2-0 with a 4.29 ERA and nine strikeouts during two starts, for assignment while recalling Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa.

The 26-year-old outfielder has started nine games this season, hitting .211 with one home run and eight RBI.

Szczur will provide another bat off the bench for manager Joe Maddon while the Cubs try to make the final push towards a playoff spot.
