Oak Brook couple pleads guilty to sending judges letters, one of a 'threatening nature'

A west suburban couple pleaded guilty Monday to sending letters to two DuPage County judges.

Sanford Kramer, 65, pleaded guilty to one felony count of threatening a public official; and his wife, 57-year-old Cynthia Kramer, pleaded guilty to one felony count of disorderly conduct—filing a false police report, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

In August, the Kramers sent three letters, two from Sanford Kramer and one from his wife, to two DuPage County judges, according to prosecutors. One of the letters from Sanford was “of a threatening nature.” They were arrested at their home in the 100 block of Saddlebrook Lane in Oak Brook on Aug. 28.

Both were sentenced to two years’ probation and 34 days in the DuPage County Jail, according to the statement. They were released from custody Monday because they had already served 17 days in jail since their arrest.

“My office takes any threat or harassment against any officer of the court or member of our judiciary very seriously,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.
