A 16-year-old boy was shot Wednesday evening in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

He was on a sidewalk at 6:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Lawler when someone walked out of an alleyway and shot him in the right thigh, according to Chicago Police.

Officers found the boy on the floor of an apartment and used a belt as a tourniquet, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
