Bears hoping to get more out of back end of rookie class

ILB Nick Kwiatkoski

Drafted: Round 4 (113 overall)

Playing time: Started Week 3 for the injured Danny Trevathan; has 78 defensive snaps.

In brief: Hurt his hamstring on the first day of padded practice and didn’t return until preseason finale. He’ll need an injury to Trevathan or Jerrell Freeman to get regular work.

Coaches’ view: “The fun about him is watching him on the sideline during the game. He’s a sponge. … He knows the value of learning from those veteran guys.” — inside linebackers coach Glenn Pires

S Deon Bush

Drafted: Round 4 (124)

Playing time: One defensive snap; inactive four of first five games.

In brief: Drafted with a chance to start, Bush’s preseason hamstring injury cost him valuable practice time; he’s only now catching up.

Coaches’ view: “He’s double studying on the run. The veterans have been great with him. He’s a very conscientious kid that comes in and gets extra work.” — defensive backs coach Ed Donatell

CB Deiondre Hall

Drafted: Round 4 (127)

Playing time: 52 defensive snaps in first four games; inactive next four (ankle sprain).

In brief: After playing a ton in the preseason and looking solid in the opener, Hall’s work at corner tapered off before the practice injury.

Coaches’ view: “He’s been working really hard in the meetings mentally. But then we start the evaluation over again. … We think good things are ahead.” —Donatell

CB DeAndre Houston-Carson

Drafted: Round 6 (185)

Playing time: Eight defensive snaps in first five games; inactive last three.

In brief: Played 16 or more snaps on special teams, his forte, in each game active.

Playing time: On the practice squad since being waived Sept. 3.

In brief: Braverman wasn’t promoted despite Eddie Royal’s Week 6 toe injury.
