WASHINGTON — Ari Emanuel, the Hollywood agent who is the brother of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, met with President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday, with Trump greeting him as the “King of Hollywood.”
At the end of the meeting, according to the pool report, Trump escorted Emanuel out and then, asked how it went, Trump said: “Very good. Great guy. Great friend of mine.”
Emanuel is one of a string of people Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence huddled with on Saturday and Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Ari Emanuel knows Trump through show business, not politics. He is the co-CEO of the WME-IMG agency in Los Angeles and represented Trump when he was starring on his reality show, “The Apprentice.”
WME-IMG purchased the Miss Universe pageant from the Trump Organization when Trump started running for president.
Ari Emanuel — as did his brothers Rahm and Zeke — supported the presidential bid of Hillary Clinton. Mayor Emanuel is President Barack Obama’s former chief of staff, and Zeke Emanuel, a physician, worked in the Obama White House as an adviser helping craft the Affordable Care Act, nicknamed Obamacare. Trump has vowed to repeal and replace Obamacare.
According to the pool report, Trump made the “King of Hollywood” mention and then brought Emanuel into the clubhouse for their meeting, Trump’s first appointment of the day.
On Saturday, Trump met with, among others, Cubs board member Todd Ricketts, up for a top spot in the Trump administration, and Mitt Romney, the Trump critic who Trump is mulling tapping to be Secretary of State.
Pence told CBS’ John Dickerson on “Face the Nation,” “I can say that Governor Romney is under active and serious consideration to serve as Secretary of State of the United States.”
