Quarterback Matt Barkley made adjustments faster Sunday than he did the week before, when he caught fire in the fourth quarter.

The result: three-straight touchdown drives, starting with the last possession of the first half, that only added to the quarterback’s confidence, Bears coach John Fox said.

“I don’t think he’s lacking for confidence — I think that’s evident in the style of play, kind of how he handles things,” Fox said. “But yeah, I would imagine, he’s probably a little more confident now than he was prior to his first two starts.”

His right thumb kept slipping off the back of the ball, so Barkley — born and raised by the beach in Southern California — decided to change his arm angle in the first half during Sunday’s snowstorm.

“Almost push the ball out,” he said, “instead of flinging it.”

The adjustment worked, Barkley won his first-ever NFL game and gained even more confidence.

“It’s at an all-time high in this league,” Barkley said.
