Even before it raises the curtain on its highly anticipated new production of Christopher Wheeldon’s “The Nutcracker” at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre this Saturday, Dec. 10, the Joffrey Ballet has announced that it will embark on a season in New York later this winter, performing at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater.
The engagement, running March 29-April 2, will mark the company’s first New York “homecoming” in 20 years, and will feature the New Yok premiere of Krzysztof Pastor’s “Romeo and Juliet” (a highly cinematic rendering of the classic tale, set against 20th century Italy politics).
A special gala performance of mixed rep, presented March 30 (under the banner of The Joyce Theater Foundation, Linda Shelton, executive director), will feature the New Yok premiere of Yuri Possokhov’s “The Bells,” Christopher Wheeldon’s “Fool’s Paradise” and San Francisco Ballet dancer Myles Thatcher’s “Fool’s Paradise.”
