The Hollywood Reporter today released its list of the “2016 Women in Entertainment Power 100,” highlighting Hollywood’s female “heavy hitters,” from actresses to network bosses to studio heads and producers (and more).
Chicago’s Jill Soloway made the cut in the category of “The Makers” (the women are categorized “by their primary role in the Hollywood ecosystem,” according to THR). Known primarily for her work as a showrunner (executive producer/writer) on the Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning “Transparent,” THR reports that Soloway recently sold a second series (“I Love Dick”) to Amazon. “Her production company, Topple, also is working on a coming-of-age feature called “Ten Aker Wood,” which Soloway will direct,” the story reports.
“My work matters most when I meet writers who tell me that watching my work inspired them to create,” Soloway tells THR.
Soloway attended Lane Tech High School and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Soloway’s mother, Elaine Soloway, once worked as a press aid Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne.
Also among the list: comedian Amy Schumer, actress/comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus, NBC President of Entertainment Jennifer Salke, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, actress Viola Davis, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, the Kardashian/Jenner family of businesswomen, singer Lady Gaga, BET chairman/CEO Debra Lee, LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and actress Taraji P. Henson.
