Temporary lane closures will begin Thursday in northwest suburban Des Plaines to repair the railroad crossings.

Weather permitting, lanes on Touhy Avenue and North Des Plaines River Road will close at the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a statement from Illinois Department of Transportation.

One lane in each direction on Touhy Avenue will be closed Thursday, and two lanes will be closed in the afternoon, IDOT said. One lane in each direction on North Des Plaines River Road will be closed Friday.

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to take alternative routes, IDOT said.
