Bears draft defensive end Jonathan Bullard in Round 3

In the third round of the NFL draft, the Bears selected Florida defensive end Jonathan Bullard with the 72nd selection.

At 6-3 and 285 pounds, Bullard fits as an end in the Bears’ base 3-4 defense, but also provides some versatility for sub packages. He played inside and on the edge at Florida, but always remained productive.

Bullard was a consensus first-team All-SEC selection last season after making 66 tackles, 17 1/2 tackles for loss and 6 1/2 sacks.

Here is what NFL.com says about Bullard: “Has the frame to add more functional strength and mass and may need to since his best fit appears to be as a 1-gapping defensive tackle in an attacking scheme. Bullard can be a very disruptive player off the snap when his pad level is good and he’s an excellent tackler allowing no broken or missed tackles all season. Bullard will need to improve his pass rush and add necessary size, but he is an ascending talent whose game should continue to improve at the next level.”
