Man shot in Back of the Yards

A man was shot early Tuesday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The 18-year-old was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle traveling in the 4500 block of South Wolcott at 1:03 a.m. when shots rang out and he was struck in the right shoulder, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

Multiple rounds of storms accompanied by strong winds and hail moved through the area, the National Weather Service said. Hail is reported in Hyde Park. A ground stop was issued for O’Hare Airport, where 119 flights were canceled.
