Chris Sale notches historical mark in short outing against Twins

Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale continued his struggles against the Minnesota Twins Sunday, but he also managed to complete a feat last accomplished more than 100 years ago.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Sale became the first South Side pitcher to throw for 250 strikeouts in a season since Ed Walsh did it in the memorable 1912 MLB season.

Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the day for Chicago’s lead pitcher as he surrendered six earned runs on nine hits in three innings pitched. In his last three starts, Sale has given up 13 runs but has 21 strikeouts in that same span.

Twins outfielder Torii Hunter insisted that the team wasn’t tipped off by Sale’s pitches, despite their success against him.
