A 35-year-old man died when he was hit by a truck near Stateville Correctional Center in southwest suburban Crest Hill late Friday.

About 11 p.m., Miguel Lara was walking on Division Street about a quarter mile west of Route 53 when he was struck by a westbound GMC truck, according to Crest Hill police and the Will County coroner’s office.

Lara, a Plainfield resident, died at the scene, authorities said.

The GMC’s driver was cooperative with investigators and no citations have been issued, Crest Hill Deputy Chief Ed Clark said. Police are investigating why Lara was in the roadway.

The crash happened across the street from Stateville, which is listed at 16830 Rte. 53. Neither the driver, nor Lara, are affiliated with the institution, according to police and the Illinois Department of Corrections.
