Only half of Illinois voters are satisfied with their party’s presidential nominee — with nearly one in four wishing they had other choices.

Those are among the results of a poll of 955 registered voters conducted earlier this week — with just eight weeks to go before Election Day.

The Reboot Illinois/We Ask America poll asked voters by phone if they agreed or disagreed with the statement “I wish someone else was my party’s nominee.”

About 38 percent said yes, and about 50 percent disagreed with that statement. About 11 percent said they were undecided.

The poll aimed to gauge the dissatisfaction some voters feel about presidential picks Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

In Illinois, the discontent was higher among Republicans and independents.

Among GOP voters, 44 percent said they’d prefer a different candidate, with only 26 percent of Democrats wanting a different pick. About 51 percent of independents wanted new candidates.

In Chicago, 31 percent of Democrats wanted a new pick, while 58 percent of Republicans wanted another choice. In suburban Cook County the numbers were higher, with nearly 43 percent of Democrats wanting another choice, and a bit over 46 percent of Republicans wanting another candidate.

Voters were also asked who they’re voting for. With Election Day just eight weeks away, about 51 percent said they’re voting for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, with Republican nominee Donald Trump getting nearly 33 percent of pollsters’ votes. About 10 percent of those polled were still undecided.

The poll has a margin of error of 3.17 percent. The poll was conducted Monday using both automated on landline phones and live interview calls to cell phones, with 40 percent of the responses coming from cell phones.
