One man has been charged — and two others are still at large — after a Wheaton College student was robbed and kidnapped at gunpoint Aug. 26 in west suburban Glen Ellyn.
Abeet Ramos, 18, of the 900 block of West Spring Street in South Elgin, was charged with one felony count of aggravated kidnapping, one felony count of armed robbery and one felony count of aggravated unlawful restraint, according to a statement from DuPage County State’s Attorney. His bond was set at $3 million Friday afternoon.
About 9:50 a.m., the student was walking in downtown Glen Ellyn when a small SUV occupied by three males pulled up, prosecutors said. Two of them got out, pulled out a handgun and told the victim to get in the vehicle.
They drove to multiple ATMs and used the victim’s debit card to withdraw more than $1,500 from his account, prosecutors said. They then drove to Chicago and let him go about 11:37 a.m.
An investigation led authorities to Ramos, who was arrested Tuesday, prosecutors said. Police are still looking for 23-year-old Jeremy Jones and a juvenile male.
Ramos’ next court date is scheduled for Sept. 13, prosecutors said.
