A man died Thursday morning, four days after he was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers were flagged down at 3:33 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of West 47th Street by someone who told them a man had been struck by a westbound vehicle, according to Chicago Police.

They found 53-year-old Steven T. Brown lying in the middle of the street with “visible trauma to the head and body,” police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday.

Witnesses were not able to provide a description of the vehicle that hit him, police said.

The driver of the vehicle drove away headed east on 47th Street after striking Brown, police said in a community alert Tuesday. Anyone with information or video evidence was asked to contact the CPD Major Accidents Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521 to aid in their investigation.
