A man was shot while driving and crashed his vehicle Wednesday morning in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

At 11:49 a.m., the 22-year-old was driving in the 1100 block of West 56th Street when someone in a dark SUV fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The victim was shot in the left side of the chest, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated the shooting.
