A man charged with shooting and critically wounding a 22-year-old man early Thursday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood was ordered held without bond.

Willard B. Wright, 38, was charged with one count of aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted robbery, all felonies, according to Chicago Police. Wright was taken into custody Thursday by officers responding to the shooting.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday, the 22-year-old victim was standing on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of West Cermak Road with a 21-year-old man when Wright attempted to rob them, police said. Wright then shot the 22-year-old, who was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Wright, who lives a block from where the shooting happened, was ordered held without bond Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office, which spelled his first name as “Williard.” He is next scheduled to appear in court May 11.
