A 37-year-old man died Friday from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a vehicle in west suburban unincorporated Melrose Park.

About 4:50 a.m. Friday, Michael Acierto was a pedestrian at the intersection of Grand and Wolf Street when he was struck by a 2013 Jeep Patriot, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and Cook County Sheriff’s Office said.

He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m, the medical examiner said. An autopsy found Acierto had died from injuries he suffered when he was struck.

The driver of the Jeep stopped at the scene, police said. No charges were pending, but the investigation was ongoing as of Friday afternoon.

Acierto was a resident of Melrose Park.
