Antione Bloxton exploded onto the scene late last season and helped lead Bogan to the Class 3A state championship game.

He missed the vast majority of the season after transferring from Julian. Sitting out all that time has made him appreciate his opportunity this season.

“Definitley,” Bloxton said. “Every game is a blessing to me. I was really upset about sitting out last year, heartbroken. This year I’m on top of my grades and everything.”

Bloxton and junior Darrion Jones were excellent in a win against Corliss tonight. The Bengals have already beaten Morgan Park and Simeon and Bloxton has a very big goal in mind.

“We are trying to go undefeated this year so every win is a big win,” Bloxton said.

I think it is fair to say that Bogan is probably the only team in the state still thinking about an undefeated run.

The Bengals face Notre Dame in the Team Rose Classic at Mount Carmel on Sunday at 2:45.

Thursday’s top games

Hyde Park 69, Lindblom 48: Jalen Houston (22 points, six rebounds) and Lamont Williams )(17 points) have big nights again and senior Maurice Clay added 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Hyde Park is 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Red-South/Central.

Rich East 77, Rich South 56: The Rockets win behind 12 points from Kyree Banks and Donovan Johnson. Devonta Blevins added 10 points. These schools will combine with Rich Central to form one team next season, which is hard to wrap your head around.

Brooks 70, Vocational 62: A big win for the Eagles’ quest to stay in the Red. Isaiah Tolbert had 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Chaz Harvey added 16 and sophomore Kyle McElroy added 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

King 66, Dunbar 62: Didn’t see any leading scorers on this one but it is an interesting result considering Dunbar’s recent success. The Jaguars are 4-4.

Solorio 66, Kennedy 38: Sophomore Donovan Jones dished out 10 assists. Jordan Hill scored 24 and Sincere Key added 18. Tyrell Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
