Spring Awakening 2019 Day 1: PHOTOS

More than 25,000 fans packed the festival’s new home in Hoffman Estates for Friday’s opening day.

Spring Awakening Music Festival got under way Friday after one minor glitch and plenty of sunshine as far as the eye could see.

Situated on 27 acres in Hoffman Estates at the former site of the Poplar Creek Music Theatre, the 2019 edition of Spring Awakening moved to the ‘burbs where its bigger footprint boasts 27 acres and 7 stages of music, in addition to food, merchandise vendors, Ferris wheel and a whole lot more.

The day got off to a slightly rocky start as the Solstice Stage and its VIP area were closed to fans due to soggy grounds following the relentless May rains. Groundskeeping crews worked feverishly to get the area back in shape and all was well by roughly 2:30 p.m.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
