A person died after driving his car into oncoming traffic Monday in Gresham, police said.

Charles Bradford, 67, was westbound in a Ford sedan about 9:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 87th Street when he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Toyota sedan traveling eastbound, causing the Ford to burst into flames, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman driving the Toyota was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in fair condition, police said.

There were no other passengers and no other injuries reported, police said.

An autopsy ruled Bradford’s death an accident, saying he died of his injuries, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The Chicago police Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
