The settlement goes to the mother of Astarte Washington. On May 31, 2020, Astarte, then 15, was ordered to the ground by police. She was then run over by a CPD squad car after an officer failed to put the car in “Park.” She suffered a hairline fracture of her hip.
The settlement would resolve a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by the sister of Irene Chavez, 33, found hanged in a police holding cell in December 2021 after being arrested on a charge of simple battery.
The group that blocked George Lucas from building a museum on Soldier Field’s south parking lot says the stadium project could ultimately end up in court — even if filing another lawsuit is “not the first thing you want to do.”
