Kyle Long is not a fan of the 'war in the trenches'

War and football are often described the same way. Both are said to be a “battle” and involve “warriors.” Kyle Long, however, disagrees with this comparison.

During the events leading up to the Pro Bowl, the Bears offensive lineman was interviewed by fellow NFL star DeAngelo Williams, who was acting as the USAA military correspondent. Williams asked fellow players various questions regarding the military.

He asked Long what he thought of the term “war in the trenches.” Long left no confusion in his answer.

“Obviously they try to draw a lot of parallels between military and football, which I think is an unfair comparison sometimes. Certainly we have teamwork components and, uh, practice, drills, all that. But I’d say that those guys, the men and women are doing something completely different than what we do and that’s why we have such an immense amount of respect for them.”

This is Long’s third Pro Bowl, reaching the game in each of his first three seasons. For the first time Long will be a tackle in the game, after moving over from guard.
