DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR
TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2015
In the morning, the President will host Afghan President Ghani, Chief Executive Officer Abdullah, and key members of their unity government at the White House. The President will hold an expanded bilateral meeting followed by a restricted bilateral meeting; the Vice President will also attend. The expanded bilateral meeting in the Cabinet Room is closed press and there will be a pool spray at the top of the restricted bilateral meeting in the Oval Office. The two presidents will discuss a range of issues including security, economic development, and U.S. support for the Afghan-led reconciliation process. This marks the first meeting between the two presidents at the White House following the 2014 presidential election, which produced the first democratic transfer of power in Afghanistan’s history. These meetings will be followed by a working lunch in the Old Family Dining Room; the Vice President will also attend. The working lunch is closed press.
In the afternoon, the President will participate in a joint press conference with President Ghani in the East Room. This event is open press.
Later in the afternoon, the President will meet with Secretary of State Kerry in the Oval Office; the Vice President will also attend. This meeting is closed press.
