Man dies 3 days after being shot in Back of the Yards

A man died Wednesday after being shot Sunday in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

Mauriceo Ashford, 29, was standing on a sidewalk about 10:20 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Marshfield Avenue when someone in a vehicle opened fire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. He was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Two people were arrested following the shooting but were released without charges.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
