Bail was set at $5,000 Saturday for a woman accused of trying to kill her father by repeatedly stabbing him at his home in Schaumburg, prosecutors said.

Clare Stone, 25, of Schaumburg, was charged with attempted murder and violating an order of protection, according to Cook County prosecutors and court records.

Prior to Friday’s attack, Stone’s father picked her up from an extended stay hotel in Schaumburg and drove her back to his home in the 1000 block of Denham Place in the northwest suburb, prosecutors said during her initial court hearing Saturday. Stone was supposed to grab some clothes before her father drove her to another hotel, but she instead laid down in the bed in her old room.

After her father told her she wasn’t supposed to be there, Stone allegedly went downstairs and grabbed a knife from the kitchen. That’s when she approached her father and stabbed him twice in the head and again in his chest and arm, according to prosecutors, who said Stone’s father was able to bite her arm and take the knife away.

Prosecutors said the father ran out of the house and drew the attention of his neighbors, who called for help. When officers arrived, they followed the man’s blood trail into his home and found Stone inside her old bedroom, according to prosecutors.

Stone was then taken into custody and her father was rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment, prosecutors said.

Stone’s father had an outstanding order of protection against his daughter, but prosecutors didn’t provide additional information. Prosecutors did note Stone was previously convicted of a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.

The assistant public defender assigned to Stone said she was receiving mental health treatment, and court records show she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. The public defender said Stone is a high school graduate who has received a certificate for cosmetology and previously worked as a waitress.

Judge Arthur Wesley Willis set Stone’s bail at $5,000 and ordered her to submit to house arrest if she posts bond.

Stone’s next court date was set for Tuesday.
