Sunday’s Cubs-Cardinals series finale was postponed around two hours before the scheduled first pitch due to inclement weather. The game will be made up Sept. 24 as part of a split doubleheader.
By then, who knows what the Cubs will look like.
With no game Sunday, the Cubs enter the all-star break 44-46 and below .500 heading into the midsummer classic for the first time since 2017. That team regrouped to win the National League Central and reach the league championship series; this group could be broken up by the July 30 trade deadline as Javy Baez, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and others have expiring contracts.
During his meeting with the media, Cubs manager David Ross addressed the comments made by catcher Willson Contreras following Saturday’s 6-0 loss. Ross understands Contreras’ frustration but wanted him to keep those discussions in-house, and disagreed with what the catcher said.
“Effort is something that has been here,” Ross said.
