It was announced Wednesday that Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell will scale back her workload but still write periodically for the paper. Today she joins Sun-Times city hall reporter Fran Spielman to reflect on her 29-year journalism career.

Mitchell discusses her reporting on Operation Silver Shovel, taking on powerful figures from Rev. Jesse Jackson to Chance the Rapper and even touches on how she’s handled her critics.

When asked how she wanted to be remembered, Mitchell replied, “That I cared. That I heard you. That I listened. That where I could help . . . I helped.”

An archive of Mitchell’s columns can be found here.
