(ELGIN) A 17-year-old boy has been charged with trying to rob a man with an air pellet gun Sunday night in northwest suburban Elgin.

The man was walking with family members near Kimball Street and Grove Avenue about 7:30 p.m. when he was approached by several males, according to a statement from Elgin police.

One of them pushed him to the ground, pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, police said. When the man did not comply, all of the suspects ran off.

The man suffered minor injuries to his arm, but did not require medical attention, police said.

A few minutes later, officers found the a teen matching the description of the suspect in the 400 block of Brook Street, and he was taken into custody. The gun used in the incident — an air pellet gun — was also found, police said.

The teen is charged with felony attempted armed robbery and is in custody at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center pending a detention hearing.
