A man was struck in the head by a stray celebratory bullet while enjoying the Fourth of July near his Albany Park neighborhood home Friday night.
The 40-year-old, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was sitting in an alley in the 5000 block of North Kildare with a friend, having a beer and watching fireworks about 9 p.m. Friday when something hit the right side of his head.
“Blood started pouring out. I couldn’t stop it,” the man said Tuesday morning. “I thought I was going to die for a few minutes.”
He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he learned the wound was superficial. He was released from the hospital a few hours later.
According to the Chicago Police report, the bullet “came out of the sky in a downward trajectory.”
The .45mm round was discovered across the alley, within a few feet of where the man had been sitting, according to the report.
A police source said the incident appeared to be celebratory gunfire. No one is in custody as of Tuesday morning.
