(NORTH RIVERSIDE) A west suburban construction company has been fined more than $75,000 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for safety violations.

B&T Underground, based in North Riverside, has been cited for one willful, two serious and four repeat safety violations for exposing workers to trench cave-in risks, according to a statement from OSHA.

The federal agency opened an inspection March 10 after employees were observed working in an unprotected trench at a home undergoing construction in Chicago, according to the statement.

The proposed penalties total $76,340, according to the statement.

The company was previously cited for trenching violations in 2011 and 2012, according to OSHA.
