A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with an SUV Tuesday afternoon in north suburban unincorporated Lake Villa.

The 25-year-old man was driving a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Route 45 about 3:15 p.m. when he entered the intersection of Rollins Road in unincorporated Lake Villa on a green light, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.

A 2015 Ford van headed northbound on Route 45 made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to hit the van, the sheriff’s office said. The motorcycle’s driver, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was ejected.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville with a serious head injury, according to the sheriff’s office. The 18-year-old man driving the Ford was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigation Unit.
