A man, a woman and a 5-year-old girl were injured when the car they were riding in crashed into a house Tuesday evening in north suburban Libertyville.

About 6:10 p.m., a Libertyville police officer was patrolling on Butterfield Road just north of Ridgewood Lane when he heard an explosion and saw a cloud of dust just to the south, a statement from Libertyville police said.

A 2007 Black Acura had crashed into a home in the 400 block of Ridgewood Lane, “causing significant structural damage to the home,” police said.

Libertyville firefighters and paramedics, along with police and witnesses helped the occupants of the vehicle while police and firefighters searched the home.

The 26-year-old man driving the car and a 25-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, both from Waukegan, were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The woman’s 5-year-old daughter, who was in a booster seat in the back, was taken to Lake Forest Hospital for evaluation, police said.

Two residents of the home were in another area of the home when the car struck it and were not injured.

Police said the Acura was northbound on Butterfield when the driver lost control and the car crashed into the home.

The accident remains under investigation and no charges or citations had been issued as of late Wednesday afternoon.
