An 82-year-old driver was killed Friday evening when his truck was struck head-on in southwest suburban Joliet, police said.

About 5:40 p.m., a vehicle was heading westbound on Hillcrest Road near Lincoln Highway (U.S. Rt. 30) when it crossed into eastbound lanes “for unknown reasons” and truck a vehicle head on, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. R. A. Caves said.

Glenn E. Trost, 82, who was driving the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:45 p.m., according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Preliminary autopsy results revealed Trost, of New Lenox, died of multiple injuries he suffered in the crash, the coroner’s office said. Final cause of death will be determined pending police, autopsy and toxicology reports.

Three people in the vehicle that caused the crash were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Caves said. Lanes at the scene were closed until 8:30 p.m.

Police do not suspect alcohol and drugs were involved in the crash, Caves said. No charges had been filed Friday night as state police investigated.
