At least three people were injured when a porch collapsed Monday night in north suburban Evanston.

A group of people were on a third-floor deck in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue about 9 p.m. when it collapsed onto the deck below, Evanston Fire Department Division Chief Tom Janetske told reporters at the scene.

He said the porch might have exceeded its load capacity at the time of the collapse.

“Everyone was having a good time and all of a sudden the floor gave away,” Janetske said.

Multiple people fell from the third-floor deck to the second-floor deck in the collapse, and three of them were taken to hospitals, where their conditions were stabilized, Janetske said.
