A 77-year-old woman was killed in a crash Wednesday morning on a slick road in north suburban Ingleside.

The crash happened on Route 59 just east of Wilson Road in Ingleside at 8:49 a.m., according to Lake County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Covelli.

Deputies arrived and found two cars with “significant damage,”according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

A preliminary investigation found that a 1998 Subaru Outback was westbound on Route 59 when the driver lost control of the car, which swerved into the eastbound lanes and hit a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, according to the statement.

The driver of the Subaru, Jaclynn E. Vos of the 39800 block of North Long Drive in Antioch, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, also female, was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The Lake County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy Thursday.

The roadways were slick at the time of the crash, Covelli said. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
