Gang members face gun charges after Elgin traffic stop

(ELGIN) Two gang members are facing weapons charges after they were caught with a gun during a traffic stop in northwest suburban Elgin on Thursday night.

Officers from the Elgin police Gang Unit and Unit for Special Assignment made the traffic stop about 8 p.m. in the 100 block of South Randall Road, according to a statement from police.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers saw a rifle in the back seat and arrested the occupants, 20-year-old Manuel A. Jasso and 21-year-old Jason D. Rodriguez, both known gang members, police said.

Jasso, of Hampshire; and Rodriguez, of Carpentersville, were each charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm by a gang member, police said. Jasso was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Jasso’s bond was set at $100,000 Friday morning, while Rodriguez was ordered held on $30,000, police said.
