A man was seriously injured when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a semi truck early Friday in southwest suburban Yorkville.

The 21-year-old man was driving westbound on Route 126, just west of Hopkins Road in Yorkville, at 2:43 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep and his vehicle veered into the oncoming lane, the Kendall County sheriff’s office said in a statement. The vehicle then collided head-on with an eastbound semi and spun off the roadway.

The man was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated before he was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, the sheriff’s office said. His injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the semi, a 52-year-old man, was not hurt, according to the sheriff’s office. No citations were issued.
