WASHINGTON–Mayor Rahm Emanuel faces off with Grover Norquist here on Monday afternoon to discuss immigration legislation at a panel discussion sponsored by The Atlantic and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Emanuel, who is used to getting his way in most national public appearances–speaking at friendly venues, rarely being challenged–may find a worthy sparring partner in Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform and an influential conservative.

Update…I should note that Emanuel and Norquist are on the same side when it comes to immigration reform…so…perhaps the conversation will be more on what it will take to get the House GOP members–and their leaders–back immigration reform measures.

The Emanuel/Norquist event comes as immigration reform may be stalled in the GOP-run House after a comprehensive bill was approved by the Senate.
